Writing 400
Throughout my four years at Michigan, I wrote about or mentioned several times that I love books. Not just reading, but the actual hard copy of books. I've talked about how I have always loved writing letters, using a journal; communication via paper has always been a big part of my life.
I wanted to explore that relationship and decided to write a cycle of essays inspired by the issues our society is facing with books, magazines and newspapers in hard copy format versus being published online or read on an E-Reader. The project turned out completely different than how I thought it would be, which was my favorite part about pursuing this topic.
I have four essays, an introductory essay that explains a little bit about me and how I came to these realizations about my love of books. I write one specific essay on hard copies and why I love them, and then I write an essay contradicting all of that and talk about my new adventures with e-Readers and accessing information online. I close off with a reflective essay that talks about our society is headed with these changes and the change in book culture, and how this has affected me at Michigan in both my academic and personal life.
As I said, these essays being completely different than I what I thought they would be. There is much more personal narrative intertwined then I wanted, but it's a different style of writing so I thought I would give it a try. After all, this was my chance to go down the road less traveled, and here is a perfect example of me giving that a go.
Please enjoy my 30 pages of my cycle of essays, titled "An Affair to Remember."
